Choose a defensible comparison
For a Shopify collection offer, compare audiences and periods that are relevant to the same buying decision. A carefully designed comparison can be more informative than a before-and-after total, but its limitations still need to be stated.
- Keep the primary outcome and follow-up period consistent.
- Account for different customer histories and product availability.
- Record overlapping promotions and changes in advertising.
- Include returns and the cost of the incentive.
- Explain how customers entered the compared groups.
Report the difference and the uncertainty
For a rate-based outcome, the observed difference between the incentive audience and comparison audience is a starting point. Unequal audiences, incomplete follow-up, or changing conditions can bias it. Do not present an association as a guaranteed causal result.
Use the conclusion proportionately
A modest campaign may supply useful directional evidence without resolving every causal question. Combine the commercial result with customer experience and operational effort when deciding whether to continue. Do not invent a lift figure when a credible comparison is unavailable.
