SHOPIFY / ORDER VALUE

Make the qualifying basket understandable

An order-value incentive connects qualification to a defined purchase amount. The important design question is what counts toward that amount and whether the customer can understand it before checkout.

Define the basis of the offer

A Shopify basket can include products with different eligibility and an order can change after purchase. Do not assume that a customer interprets order value the same way as the promotion.

  • State whether qualification is assessed before or after discounts.
  • Explain the treatment of shipping, taxes, and excluded items.
  • Clarify whether the condition applies to one order or a defined purchase period.
  • Explain how cancellations or returns affect the qualifying purchase.

Choose an achievable customer proposition

The offer should encourage a sensible purchase, not pressure customers to add items they do not need. Consider the products normally bought together and how the incentive complements their value. The precise commercial threshold belongs in the actual offer, not in a generic program guide.

Measure basket changes carefully

Review qualified basket composition, return-adjusted order value, participation, and total incentive cost. A larger initial order is not an improvement if unwanted items are returned or the promotion creates disproportionate confusion.
